In a moment of immense pride for Goa and the Indian Armed Forces, Wing Commander Maria Ismenia Sanchia Pereira has etched her name in the annals of military history. She has become the first Goan woman officer to be honored with the 'Mention-in-Despatches'—a prestigious wartime gallantry recognition—for her exceptional service during 'Operation Sindoor.'

The Role of a Guardian: Contribution to Operation Sindoor
During the high-stakes environment of Operation Sindoor, Wing Commander Pereira served as a pivotal Air Traffic Controller (ATC) at a frontline operational base in the Western Command (Ambala).
Her contribution went far beyond routine flight coordination. Utilizing advanced radar systems, she provided:

Actionable Intelligence: Deep-dive surveillance data that allowed Indian fighter jets to identify and neutralize enemy hideouts with precision.

Early Warning Systems: Crucial alerts regarding incoming enemy aircraft and missile threats, ensuring the safety of Indian airspace and ground assets.

Operation Sindoor:
Launched in May 2024 following the Pahalgam terrorist attacks, Operation Sindoor was a strategic military offensive. Its primary objective was to dismantle terrorist infrastructure and launchpads located across the Line of Control (LoC) and within Pakistani territory.
From Betalbatim to the Skies:
Wing Commander Maria, known to many as Sanchia Pereira, hails from a family dedicated to public service in Goa. She is the daughter of Eustaquio Pereira, retired Deputy Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, and Poma Pereira, a retired Deputy Education Officer.
A true daughter of the soil, her academic journey was rooted in Goa:
Schooling: Mary Immaculate Conception High School (Panaji) and Green Rosary Higher Secondary School (Dona Paula).
Professional Education: She earned her engineering degree from the Goa Engineering College (GEC) in Farmagudi before joining the Indian Air Force.
