Colonel Balakrishna Shirodkar (Retd.) an Armoured Engineer

Colonel Balakrishna Shirodkar (Retd.) an Armoured Engineer, who fought the militants in the Northeast while serving the Assam Rifles and also active during the Kargil conflict is a Goan officer from Goa. He passed out as an officer from the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.
Col Shirodkar was born on 16 Nov 1973 in Vasco -da- Gama. He did his schooling from St Joseph’s Institute, HSSC from MES college and Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engg from Goa Engineering College, Farmaguddi, Ponda.
He was initially posted to 114 AER at Patiala in 1997, thereafter in the Northeast to Assam Rifles to fight the insurgents from 2000-2003, then an exposure to staff in the engrs branch of a corps hq, back to the regiment in Jhansi. He was then posted to Carnicobar Island in Andamans as Officer Commanding EWS at an AF station in charge of infrastructure redevelopment,
Col Shirodkar was also posted to Pune as an Estate Manager in support of DRDO where he also did his MBA in logistics and supply chain management.
From 2018 to 2020 he was posted at Tangste at 14000 ft in Ladakh, was actively involved with the Chinese skirmishes in Galwan,
He took VRS in 2022, after srrving at DGOA in Hyderabad for a couple of years. He has served from the eastern most to western most , from the northern most to the southernmost, an experience which can never be forgotten , an all round career.
He has been awarded an Army commanders commendation card and despite being in the Army he was also awarded Chief of Naval Commendation card during his service.
He has been involved in Kargil War operations as well as operations in the Galwan valley.
He is now settled in Margao with his wife and two daughters.
