Lt Col. Narendra Divekar SM (Retd.) was a product of St Joseph's High School, Vasco for his early schooling, then moved to MES College for his 11th and 12th, followed by graduation from Chowgule College. And, while doing PGDCA left midway to join IMA (Indian Military Academy) where he did his basic training to join the Indian Army from June 1988 to December 1989.A significant career shift.
He had an impressive career in the Indian Army. Commissioned into the Artillery and later shifted to Army Aviation served in Sikkim at high altitudes, flew in Siachen, and got the COAS Commendation Card for flying duties in OP Meghdoot . Lt Col. Divekar later flew Mi-25/Mi-35 gunships in J&K, and later was part of raising crew of the first ALH squadron in Bangalore.
He had quite a mix of operational and command roles, including commanding a Bofors battery in Ferozepur and Sevoke Road in NE. His experience in aviation and artillery is truly remarkable.
The story of Lt Col Divekar is truly inspiring. He served in several critical roles in the Indian Army, and his achievements were honored with two COAS Commendation Card and Sena Medal. He specialized in aviation and artillery, and made significant contributions to the operationalization of 202 AA Squadron.
His story includes many interesting moments, such as flying in Siachen, operating Mi-25/Mi-35 gunships, and being part of raising crew an ALH squadron as the first Adjutant of the Sqn. After his service period ended, he started a new career as a civilian helicopter pilot flying offshore to the oil fields in Mumbai High as well as Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.
