Born in 1960 in Margao, Goa, Lt Col Umesh Bhatikar (Retd) has had an illustrious career spanning over four decades in both military and civil aviation.

He received his early education at Model English High School, Margao, before pursuing higher studies at Chowgule College, Goa, and later at Fergusson College, Pune. In 1978, he joined the National Defence Academy (NDA), marking the beginning of his journey in the service of the nation.

Lt Col Bhatikar was commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery in 1981. Demonstrating exceptional aptitude and professionalism, he transitioned to the Army Aviation Corps in 1986, where he served as a helicopter pilot, undertaking a wide range of operational and support missions.

After serving the Indian Army with dedication and distinction, he retired from military service in 2003 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Following his retirement from the Army, Lt Col Bhatikar embarked on a successful second career in civil aviation, flying helicopters for several leading aviation companies across India. His extensive flying experience, discipline, and professionalism earned him respect throughout the aviation industry.

After an accomplished career in both military and civilian aviation, he retired in 2025, bringing to a close a remarkable journey of service, leadership, and excellence in aviation.
