This mantra defines the career of Colonel Dhondiraj Samant, a distinguished officer of the Indian Army (Corps of Engineers). Over a span of 26 years, Col. Samant has not only defended the nation’s borders but actively shaped its infrastructure, all while maintaining a rigorous pursuit of academic excellence.

Hailing from Ponda, Goa, Col. Samant’s journey is a blueprint for resilience, intellect, and patriotic service.

The Resilience: A Dream Deferred, Not Denied

Col. Samant’s entry into the armed forces wasn't a straight line. During his higher secondary days, he missed the NDA opportunity due to a lack of awareness. Later, despite clearing the SSB interview after his BE (Mechanical), he was unable to join the Air Force due to a vision issue.

He entered the corporate world, but the fire to serve the nation never died. He persisted, reappeared for the SSB, and was finally commissioned into the Indian Army on 11 December 1999.

A Career of Impact: 26 Years of Service

Col. Samant has served in some of the most challenging terrains in India and abroad. His career highlights include:

UN Peacekeeper (2001): Deployed in Ethiopia and Eritrea to provide critical engineering support to Indian and foreign armies.

Operation Parakram (2001-2002): Following the Parliament attack, he was involved in the largest-ever demining activity along the Punjab border, laying approximately 4,500 mines to secure the western front.

Nation Building in the North East (2003-2006, 2013-2016): Served with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in Arunachal Pradesh and later as Commander of a Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) in Manipur. He was pivotal in developing the Silchar-Imphal Highway and key roads in Mizoram.

Strategic Security (2008, 2019-2021): Undertook infrastructure projects near Nathula Pass (Sikkim) and later commanded an Engineer Regiment (TA) in the Uri Sector, constructing the Anti-Infiltration Obstacle System along the Line of Control.

Administration & Recruitment: From managing infrastructure at Bathinda Military Station to serving as Director (Resources) at HQ DGBR in Delhi. Currently, as Director (Recruiting) in Mandi, he is guiding the youth of Himachal Pradesh to join the Agnipath Scheme.

The Scholar Warrior

Rare is the officer who balances combat engineering with high-level academia. Col. Samant is a true "Scholar Warrior":

BE (Mechanical): Goa Engineering College, Farmagudi.

M-Tech (Thermal Engineering): IIT Delhi (2008).

PGDM (Financial Management): National Institute of Financial Management (2021).

PhD (Pursuing): Currently researching Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) at IIT Mandi.

Stay Informed: Watch for recruitment notifications and utilize the Department of Sainik Welfare scheme, which offers Rs. 2 lakhs to Goans commissioned as officers.
