John Aguiar ( BA,BJ,MJ. ) is a Konkani poet, writer, media person and lyricist His song Viva Carnival, composed and sung by Mukesh Ghatwal was chosen as the Goa carnival theme song in 2012. . Aguiar wrote a bhakti geet on Lord Ganesha also composed and sung by Mukesh Ghatwal, a first of its kind in Konkani .Thereafter wrote several songs. Four books of Konkani poems ,one each English and romi konkani essays. Nominated for the best lyrics award at Mangalore, bagged KBM’s Literary Award in the year 2017. Gulab Writer of the Year Award ,The Navhind Times Ex-NCC Achiever Award. He bagged Goa CM’s Medal in Home Guards Presidents Medal for Meritorious , Presidents Medal for Distinguished Services DGCD Commendation 2013 and DDGNCC Commendation. Professionally, he was an officer with the Government of Goa's Department of Information and Publicity. Aguiar has been a journalist since his college days, associated with newspapers such as Herald, West Coast Times, Goencho Avaz, Rashtramat, Navhind Times, Gomantak and others.

SHRI AGUIAR RETIRES AFTER COMMENDABLE SERVICES IN DIP

 

Goa Khabar: Information Officer in the Department of Information and Publicity Shri John Aguiar today retired after 30 years of commendable service in the 
Department.Shri Aguiar joined the Department in April 1990 as Information Assistant and subsequently rose to the position of Information Officer. He had the opportunity of working in high offices on deputation. Shri Aguiar served as Assistant Private Secretary to then Union Minister of State Shri Eduardo Faleiro in the Ministry of External Affairs, Finance and Chemicals & Fertilizers. He served as Public Relations Officer of Goa Police Department from June 13, 2011 till December 8, 2017.
During his tenure as PRO, he displayed professional competence and liaised with the Press/media personnel and carried out image building of the Police Department successfully. He was the Nodal Officer of the Department of Information & Publicity in connection with hosting of the Civic Reception in honour of President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind on July 7, 2018.
Attended "All India Public Communicators Workshop" organised by Department of Information & Public Relations, Government of Karnataka in Bangalore in December 2016. Though he joined as a B.A. graduate in the Department, he completed his Bachelor in Journalism and subsequently Master in Journalism while still in service. He was nominated as North Goa District ICON during the 2019 Lok Sabha General elections.
Shri Aguiar was member of media accreditation committee for media delegate registration for IFFI.
Shri Amar Sinha, IFS, Secretary Economic Relations commended the services of Shri Aguiar for the assistance provided as regards liaison with the local press/media and coordinatin at the airport and at the venue during the 8th BRICS summit in Goa on 15-16 October 2016, The services of Shri Aguiar were also commended by Lt. Gen. Rajiv Bhalla , CEO, OC-BFT for the support in press publicity during teh BRICS U-17 football cup in Goa. Shri Deepak Mani Tiwari, Deputy Commandant CISF Goa also appreciated the services of Shri Aguiar.
The Services of Shri Aguair were commended by then Secretary (Information & Publicity) Shri Narendra Kumar, IAS. then Chief Electoral Officer Shri Raajiv Yaduvanshi, IAS and then Joint CEO Shri R. P. Pal, IAS. Participated in skit competition on beti bachao beti padhao for Government employees as part of International day of the Girl child on October 6, 2018 which bagged second place. As Honorary Home Guards Company Commander, he had conducted several lectures and demonstration of Emergency rescue methods for NCC cadets during Annual Training camps and school children. He accompanied the Goa Press Accreditation Committee on a study tour to Mumbai, Delhi, Chandigarh and Punjab. He also accompanied Press Accreditation Committee of the Goa Legislature Secretariat on a study tour of Jaipur, Ajmer in Rajasthan.
In Home Guards, he bagged Goa Chief Minister's Gold Medal in 2007, Presidents Medal for Home Guards and Civil Defence for Meritorious Services 2012, Director General Civil defence, New Delhi commendation and Disk 2013 and Deputy Director General Commendation in 2014. His name was announced for President's Home Guard Medal for Distinguished Service on January 25, 2020. Shri Aguiar awas presentd a special recognition award by the Chief Electoral Officer at the National Voters Day on January 26, 2020 at the hands of Chief Secretary Shri Parimal Rai, IAS.
Shri Aguiar initiated two schemes in the Department, "The Goa State Journalist Awards" scheme and e Goa State Photo Contest and Exhibition Scheme -2014.Shri Aguuar was also Nodal Officer of Department of Information & Publicity on State Disaster Management Committee.
